Hon. Lawrence Etta, Ntufam Hon. Ekanem Ekpeyong Meet Rovers FC and FA Officials to Address Team Performance

In a sportsmanlike and proactive move aimed at strengthening football development in the state, the Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission, Hon. Lawrence Etta, alongside the Senior Special Assistant on Sports to the Governor, Ntufam Ekanem Ekpeyong, convened an emergency and strategic meeting with the management of Rovers FC and members of the Cross River State Football Association.

The meeting, which was held in Calabar, became necessary following growing concerns about the recent performances of the state-owned football club. The engagement provided a platform for sports administrators, football stakeholders, and club officials to openly discuss the challenges facing the team and explore practical solutions to improve performance and competitiveness.

During the deliberations, the Chairman of the Sports Commission, Hon. Lawrence Etta, emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and effective management in achieving success in modern football. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Cross River State Government to the growth and sustainability of sports in the state, particularly football, which continues to unite and inspire the youth.

Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant on Sports to the Governor, Ntufam Ekanem Ekpeyong, encouraged the club management, technical crew, and players to remain focused and dedicated to their responsibilities. He noted that the meeting was not intended to apportion blame but rather to collectively identify gaps and provide the necessary support to help the team return to winning ways.

Members of the Cross River State Football Association also shared their insights, offering technical advice and recommendations that could help strengthen the club’s structure, improve player motivation, and enhance overall team performance.

The management of Rovers FC welcomed the intervention and appreciated the state sports authorities for their concern and commitment to the progress of the club. They assured stakeholders of their readiness to implement necessary adjustments that would reposition the team for better results in upcoming competitions.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to work collaboratively in restoring the pride and competitive spirit of Rovers FC, ensuring that the club continues to serve as a strong representation of Cross River State in Nigerian football.
