About the Ayo Team

Ayo, also known in different parts of Africa as Ayo Olopon, Ayoayo, or Mancala, is one of the continent's oldest traditional board games. More than a game, Ayo is a symbol of African wisdom, strategic thinking, patience, and cultural identity. Played for centuries across communities, it continues to unite generations while promoting healthy competition and intellectual development.

The Cross River State Ayo Team plays a vital role in the Commission's commitment to preserving indigenous sports and promoting Nigeria's rich cultural heritage. We identify, train, and develop talented players capable of competing at state, national, and international traditional sports festivals.
